Life Is a Journey

I’ve heard that so many times and yet most of the time, I am so fixated on the destination that I forget to stop, realign, and bring myself back to the moment. Only when I am in the moment is when I feel a sense of calm. Whatever has happened in the past cannot change and the future is out of my control. In the moment is where my peace and happiness lives.

How many times have I said to myself, when this happens, I will be happy. But what if it never happens? How can I be happy now? Maybe being happy in this moment would make it easier to achieve this goal. My motivation and creative sparks suffer when I cannot get out of those dark places which generally have to do with the past or the future.

Being happy in the moment and along the journey is where we create a life filled with happiness. Every moment will not be happy but as you fill your life with gratitude, the happiness comes into your life more often. Believe me, some days I can only find enough gratitude for my cup of coffee or the fact that I am breathing. But once I acknowledge that, I am able to move forward and slowly find more to be grateful for.

The journey to the life we want is where we should be finding peace and calm or else it’s not the right path. That is not to say the path isn’t filled with twists and turns and ups and downs, but if we can find a little happiness on that journey then we know we are going in the right direction.

Even during the downward spirals of my journey when I feel that feeling of endless hopelessness, if I can keep telling myself this will pass, I can move forward slowly and get through it. I feel the feelings, even when the sorrow is so full that I break down. I am in that moment even when it feels like it will never end. Because I know it will. Every moment passes, good or bad, and it is important to realize that in order to enjoy the good moments even more.

Every moment in our life is a lesson along our journey. Even the bad moments teach us something. Look for what it is teaching, so you can learn and move on. How we deal with those moments is the true test. If we hold on to the bad, then there is no room for the good.

If you cannot enjoy the journey, you will not truly enjoy the destination.
